Client Background and Needs

I-O DATA, a well-known Japanese consumer electronics brand and one of the industry leaders, commissioned Magnus to redesign its USB Hub and power extension products. As user demand for simultaneous data access and device charging continued to grow, balancing product design with safety became the core challenge of this project.

Magnus Solution

In the role of an ODM partner, Magnus proposed an innovative integrated solution, creating the industry’s first USB 3.0 Hub combined with a power extension outlet:
●Product design and manufacturing: applied rapid prototyping iterations to ensure the best balance between functionality and aesthetics.
●Compliance and safety: fully addressed regulatory requirements and successfully achieved Japan’s PSE certification.
●Functional integration: designed four USB ports and seven power sockets, supporting USB 3.0 high-speed transfer and compatibility with major LCD TVs such as PlayStation®3, Toshiba “REGZA,” and SHARP “Aquos.”

Project Outcome

The product launch sparked strong market discussion and received highly positive user feedback. For the client, this solution delivered:
●Convenience: a single device to meet multi-device connection and charging needs.
●Efficiency: allowed external drives to connect directly to TVs or PCs, reducing the inconvenience of switching devices.
●Safety and reliability: passed strict regulatory certifications, ensuring stable performance across multiple usage scenarios.
●Market value: gained first-mover advantage with innovative design, strengthening the brand’s competitiveness in the consumer electronics manufacturing sector.
Through this collaboration, Magnus and I-O DATA successfully turned a concept into reality. We not only provided technical support but also helped the client seize market opportunities, launching a product that combined both design appeal and functionality.
